Final Proof: The LägereBräu Beer Carriers

Since March 2008 my fellow students Jacob Kadrmas and Thomas Lehner have been working with me on the corporate design of the small but special Swiss brewery LägereBräu which is based in Wettingen, Aargau. Last Saturday we went to the printing company Limmatdruck in a town near Zurich to pull the final proof of the beer containers.

Because of budgetary reasons we had to use the standard materials for carriers like these. It's a cartonboard called Frövi Carry with a white coated and a natural brown side. But as materiality is an important aspect of the visual identity we developed for the brand LägereBräu we decided to show the material as it is and flipped the sheet. So we used the natural brown side which is normally hidden inside the container as the print substrate. It was a bit tricky to deal with this spongy surface to finally achieve the special bright yellow for the logo and also the desired effects by applying printing varnishes. But it worked out and in one or two weeks the finished carriers will arrive. I'll let you know! ;)

That's a pretty stylish packaging - usually I suspect beer brewers to be more traditional, that is: conservative. But it fits, as it's fresh. Is there a chance to get one box filled with the bottles you designed?

PS: I like your other caps more. ;-P

PPS: The bottles should be filled, too.
