Not another blogger…

Ok, ok, I'm a late one. Nearly everybody already has a blog with impressive archives full of more or less impressive articles about… whatever. And now I really have to start another weblog? Yeah, I think I have to.

Maybe my blogging brother known as basquiat in the german blogosphere is the one to blame. He impressed me so many times with his perspective on several topics I'm interested in or with statements about matters beyond the horizon of my interests. And because I always was a friend of free exchange of knowledge and constructive debate I was thinking about becoming a part of the blogosphere for nearly two years. Maybe reading the book «Wir nennen es Arbeit» («we call it work») written by Holm Friebe and Sascha Lobo determined my decission to finally implement this blog. Didn't they tell us 10 good reasons why everyone should blog? Did I ever had a real choice?

Another question might be why I've chosen to blog in English. It's definitely a good question because my skill in the usage of the English language are not anything like as good as in my mother tongue, the German. But this might be the best reason to start an English blog. Another one will be explained elsewhere.

Not quite unimportant for hosting an own blog is the topic the blogger is convinced of having to write about over and over again. So what's the big thing that pushes and moves my mind all day long? As the title of my blog tells to the still unenlightened reader the author (I know Foucault would punish me for this) expresses his attitudes, experiences and opinions on the visual world and all the aspects of the creative industries connected to it. As a student of Visual Communication at the Academy of Art and Design Basel (FHNW HGK) graphic and typographic design is more than an upcoming job to me. Reflecting about stuff that inspires me, that causes my attention to hold and to focus will be an important part of my verbal output within this blog. There are already a few good blogs written in German about design and visual culture like slanted, flontblog or stylespion but I think there is still a little space left for another blog that provides views on the visual culture in and arround Germany, Austria and Switzerland also to an English-speaking international audience. That's the other reason for my choice of language for this site.

So I want to fall back on the same words my brother used to close his first blog entry in 2004: «Na dann mal los! Habt Spaß und heißt mich willkommen!». It means: Here we go! Have fun and bid me welcome! With this in mind…
