Mags, mags, mags. To stick to the point after I just wrote my note about the 1st Zurich Zine Secession on December 14th, I want to make you aware of «Stack». It's a
… unique service that brings together the best independent English language magazines from around the world and delivers them direct to your home.Stack offers several packages containing a defined number of magazines you can choose from their collection and they'll be sent to you at the low price of £ 3 (about € 3.50) per mag (if you live in the UK; see the international prices here). ... read

Although I'm not too much into fashion there are many fantastic magazines on the subject of the ways the different parts of our bodies could be covered or – to the contrary – be presented. Yesterday I read about another nice fashion mag which is created by Romeu Silveira who writes for São Paolo Fashion Week. The current issue of «U Mag», which is digitally distributed via blogspot only, combines great photographies with a beautifully simple but all the more stronger typographic concept. Get into it on umagmag.blogspot.com! ... read

Last week I won in one of the «Kalendsadventer» contests of FontBlog. Because I live in Switzerland it took my prize the whole week from Berlin to my mailbox. And when I came back home yesterday afternoon after I had celebrated my birthday within the family this weekend, I finally found the FontShop-labeled package waiting for me. My impatience dealed with the cardboard packaging and revealed this shiny yellow book titled «Made with FontFont – Type for independent Minds».

They will host the 1st Zurich Zine Secession, a «One-day Independent Publishers Fair» on December 14th, 2008. About 40 publishers from around the world have registered to present their publications and to swap ideas. And the organizers hope for as many magazine enthusiasts to join as possible – so spread the word!

After I had seen a lot of pictures of pages taken from the current special issue of the biannual «Very Elle», I was very fond of the mag designed by the studio Non-Format. But because nearly the whole blogosphere was much faster than me, I didn't have any chance to get my hands on a copy before my feed reader, which popped up nearly every two minutes with a new article on this issue, took all the wind out of my sails. So I decided not to publish another review but to refer to articles I've read by doing a kind of a short press review instead.
The result is a really beautifully crafted magazine that absolutely succeeds in creating a distinct voice - this is, after all, a mass-market publication, not a niche arts title. ...read
